Whipping Myself Into Shape

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

I never really made new year’s resolutions. Except last year, I think that was my first time to do so. Well, as mentioned in my previous post, my new year’s resolutions for 2007 are still unresolved. Eheh.

Well whatever. I’m already starting on my sole new year’s resolution for 2008. Except it’s not really one, since I’m already working on it, is it? Whatevs. I don’t really care. Alls I care about is getting into shape and being as healthy as I can be. This is not my first time to work out, but back then I was exercising on and off. Not very effective. This time I’m determined to stick to my routine for good.

‘Tis the season…

For the year to end.
It just sank in yesterday that 2007 is coming to a close. What the hell? Where did the year go? Seriously. Looking back, I haven’t been able to accomplish much. And my new year’s resolutions are still unresolved. I know that it’s my own fault, though. I spend my days focusing on things that don’t matter in the end. I have serious discipline and time management problems. Sigh.

To give gifts.
Yesterday was my first time to send a parcel abroad. Who would’ve known that international shipping could be a pain in the posterior? I sure didn’t have any idea that the US was so strict. Can’t send this, can’t send that, blah blah blah. Geez. I ended up having to replace some items - boo! I bounced around from one logistics company to another, asking about their rates and restrictions. Finally I landed at FedEx. They were the nicest and most professional, so I guess they do live to deliver! Unfortunately our post office isn’t very trustworthy, that’s why I had to go to a logistics company. I had to shell out quite a bit with the shipping costs, but I’d rather do that than risk my package getting lost. Forever. Seriously.

For dry skin.
My skin is beginning to act up once more - it gets drier in cooler weather. Funny thing is, it’s not even very cool this year! A gust of wind every once in a while. That’s about it. Sigh. It must be global warming. Anyway, I’m prepared if my skin gets worse - I’ve got virgin coconut oil at my disposal.

To pamper myself a bit.
I’ve been saving my pennies for a rainy day, so yesterday I ordered a Lensbaby 3G - my first online purchase! (But not my first online transaction.) Can’t wait for it to arrive! =D

Strange Green Visitor

Saturday, December 1st, 2007

Last Thursday night, we had a strange green visitor. No, not an alien. A katydid. It had perched on the window screen outside the kitchen sink. My mom spotted it and called me over to take a look at it. It was pretty cool - we had never seen a katydid in real life before. I’m pretty sure it ended up at our house because of the rain - the rain always seems to bring insects out of their hiding places.

Anyway, since we had some things lying outside that window, my mom was thinking of getting rid of the katydid - permanently. I told her that we should just leave it alone. Then she gave me a look, the same as the one she gave me a few years back when she told me I was taking animal rights too seriously. But she didn’t do anything to the katydid, and the next morning, it had gone away.

Or so we thought. The next night, as I was slicing some bananas, I looked up and saw the katydid staring back down at me from the ceiling. This time I freaked out a bit. Insects are just not my thing. And now that it’s inside the house, well, that means I’m going to have to take it outside. Oh by the way, of course I can’t be sure if it’s the same katydid, but it looked the same, though it seemed a little bigger. Heh.

So I called my brother to grab a stool and plastic bag while I put the bananas away to a safer place. My brother saw the katydid and freaked out, too. Then I got on the stool, plastic bag over my hand. I just looked at the katydid for several moments, trying to figure out how to do things. I didn’t want to be too rough - then I might squish it, but I didn’t want to be to gentle as it might get away.

Then I reached out - and the katydid flew off! I pretty much panicked. But then I saw that it had landed on the window screen. I quickly grabbed a small plastic tub and put it over the katydid, while asking my brother to get a piece of cardboard. Then I scooped the katydid up with the cardboard (while still holding the tub over it), ran outside, and set it free.
